About Enko Sakai
Born in 1963 in Aichi, Japan, Enko Sakai began his career as an office employee before following a spiritual calling inspired by his maternal grandfather, a Buddhist priest. At the age of 27, he entered the priesthood and joined Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei, the head temple of the Tendai sect, transitioning from the Pure Land tradition. After completing rigorous training, he later became head priest of Myojoin Temple at the age of 42.
Under his guidance, Myojoin Temple evolved into a welcoming spiritual sanctuary open to visitors from all walks of life. The temple gained national media recognition for its modern and accessible approach to Buddhist practice and is now frequently featured on television and in magazines. Visitors can take part in waterfall meditation, sutra chanting, and Zen meditation experiences.
At 40, Enko Sakai became a certified counselor after completing formal training in mental health and hypnosis management. He also developed expertise in Reiki, Qigong, yoga, meditation, and energy work. By integrating these disciplines with his spiritual background, he has helped guide individuals toward balance and clarity in today’s high-stress society. At 50, he began studying English to share his teachings with a global audience.
Enko Sakai also made his film debut in Love on Mars, appearing as himself and serving as executive producer.
